Although Google has not officially announced the new feature, a Search Engine Roundtable report recently claimed that the support page used to warn users about checking for fraudulent users was updated to global use in mid-September. It appears that this function was already in use in the U.K.

On a policy violation restrictions support page of the Business Profile, Google maintains that it understands the issues about fake reviews and fake ratings on businesses and rating agencies. Furthermore, violations of this Fake Engagement policy may read some legitimate businesses like creating restrictions for abuse on their business profiles if evinced such violations. Google goes on to say that if it detects any Owner of a business bypassing the Google Fake Engagement Policy, further, it may contain the business profile (including removal of the offending reviews).

It is important to mention that apart from the elimination of fake reviews, three other examples of restriction of the Business Profile include no new reviews or ratings being received for the said period, existing reviews or ratings being hidden for a certain period of time (most probably during the investigation), and a notice appearing towards the user that one or several reviews deemed to be untrue have been withdrawn from the listing.
In any such scenario, the business will inform owners of operations via email of their intention to carry out an action which will result in the restriction of the Business Profile page of the owners which contravenes the Google Fake Engagement policy.

Also, in case the companies or the individual users believe that their business profile has been unfoundedly assessed for false internal reviews and ratings, then they shall have the facility to escalate the complaint to Google for re-evaluation or submit request for re-evaluation.
